About Me
I’m Tom Blackwell, an educator and PhD student at the University of Nottingham, UK. My background is Waldorf education, with more than 10 years experience as a Class Teacher and several years as an Additional Learning Needs Coordinator, Designated Safeguarding Lead, and School Manager.
This site documents my research and personal reflections around my PhD studies, where I explore how integrating mindfulness into a curriculum may support the mental health, wellbeing and social-emotional development of children and young people in education. It’s also a home for sharing related conversations and collaborations.
Drawing on more than ten years of teaching experience and international collaboration, my work sits at the intersection of psychology, education, and contemplative practice. Whether you’re an educator, mindfulness practitioner, researcher, or simply curious, I hope you find something here that informs, inspires, or supports your own journey.
I’ve had the joy of knowing Tom Blackwell for nearly a decade, and in all that time, his gentle spirit, deep integrity, and boundless kindness have stood out above all. Tom brings genuine care and heartfelt presence to every interaction. His passion for reimagining education with mindfulness, compassion, and wholeness at its core, resonates deeply with our work at Jhamtse Gatsal. During his time at the Children’s Community in India, he listened with love, offered wisdom humbly, and became a trusted friend and advisor to our team. Tom is a rare soul, thoughtful, wise, and wonderfully human in every way.
